Thanksgiving is approaching VERY fast. Here in Maine the leaves have all changed colors and are falling to the ground - which means it is almost time to rake!!! Not my favorite Fall activity but it has to get done.
When I saw the tutorial this week over at Splitcoast to create a laced luminaria I decided to give it a try. I've never made one but the instructions were really easy to follow. I also had purchased some 4" paper coasters from Ebay about a year ago and have never done anything with them (what a shocker!!) so this was the perfect project.
To begin, I covered my coasters with paper from American Traditions Designs. Then I decided to use Spellbinders Labels 1 to create the openings in the luminaria. The dies cut through the coasters just like butter!! Then I created the dark brown frame by placing 2 nested Labels 1 together and diecut.
My stamped image is from the "Give Thanks Nested Frames" set by JustRite. I stamped the sentiment and borders onto acetate using black StazOn. Once dried I colored it with Copics (color on the BACK side of the stamped image - otherwise the Copics with remove the StazOn). I cut it to fit on the backside of the coaster and then applied a piece of vellum to the back of the stamped image.
Once all of the sides were diecut, stamped, colored, and applied, it was time to lace up the box. To finish the box, I adhered the top portion to another paper coaster and added some gold cording around the edges.
These 2 photos show what the luminaria looked like once I lit it up. I didn't happen to have a battery operated candle so I did use a tealight but it is not recommended. I just wanted to show what it looked like lit up so I will be getting a battery operated candle before Thanksgiving.
Below is a photo of the entire "Give Thanks Nested Frames" stamp set. Perfect for creating decor for your Thanksgiving dinner table.
That's it for today. Thanks so much for stopping in for a visit. Have a great weekend!!
