JustRite Christmas Blog Hop

The project that I chose for today's JustRite Christmas Blog Hop is a Mini Bread Box. I found these instructions online a few years back, however the copy that I have does not include the name of the blog that I got the instructions from. If anyone happens to know, please email me and I will gladly revise my post.

To begin my project, I chose a dark red cardstock as my bread box base. The cardstock needs to be 8 1/2 x 11. Score each side at 2 3/4" and again at 1/2" on all sides. (see photo)

Now you need to make some cuts. I think the easiest way to explain this is with a photo. The solid lines are the cut lines and the dotted lines are the score lines.

I hope these photos help with how the box will look after it has been cut.

I decorated my box before I assembled it because it is easier while the box is flat. My side panels are cut from the Cosmo Cricket Oh Joy designer paper. The long side is cut 5 1/4" x 2" and the short sides are cut 2 3/4" x 2". I added ivory/green ribbon along the top edges/flaps of the box.

Now you just need to assemble the box by applying adhesive to the short sides and fold along the score lines.

For my sentiment on the front of my box, I chose the designer center from the new Christmas Joy Borders & Centers from JustRite Stampers. This set is so versatile because you can use just the centers by themselves or with the borders.

I stamped my sentiment onto ivory cardstock using Brilliance Pearlescent Ivy ink. Then I diecut it using the Spellbinders Labels Four dies. My mat is diecut from DCWV green cardstock, also using the Spellbinders Labels Four die. Each layer has popdots between them to give lots of dimension. Then I added eyelets and laced narrow green ribbon through and around the box.

My next decision was what I was going to put in my box. I decided to make some Date Nut Bread (which happens to be my father-in-law's favorite). He also tells me that I am his favorite daughter-in-law when I make this bread for him. However, I am his ONLY daughter-in-law so I'm not sure what to think about that.

If anyone is interested, here is the recipe:

DATE NUT BREAD
3/4 cup chopped nuts

1 cup chopped dates

1 1/2 tsp. baking soda

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 cup shortening

3/4 cup boiling water

2 eggs

1 tsp. vanilla

1 cup sugar

1 1/2 cups sifted all-purpose flour

Combine nuts, dates, baking soda, and salt in a mixing bowl. Add shortening and boiling water. Allow this mixture to stand for 15 minutes. Stir to blend. Beat the eggs slightly; add the vanilla. Stir in the sugar and the sifted flour. Add to the date mixture. Do not overmix. Place in a greased loaf pan. Bake for 1 hour in a 350 degree oven.

Now to make the bread look presentable, I added a belly band.

All I did was cut a strip of Cosmo Cricket designer paper approximately 2" wide x 12" long and a piece of green cardstock 2 1/4" wide x 12" long and adhered them together and taped the ends together. Next I stamped the designer center and border from the new "Something Sweet Borders & Centers" set from JustRite Stampers being released today. I stamped the center and border seperately and then diecut each using Spellbinders dies. I diecut 2 mats also using the Spellbinders Petite Scallop Circle Nestabilities. Each layer has popdots between them to give lots of dimension.
